Research title: Apes by the sea: Eastern Africa’s coastal forests and hominin origins.

 

 

René is a palaeontologist with the Paleo-Primate Project at Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique.

He has spent the past three decades engaged in teaching and field research in eastern Africa, first in Ethiopia, then in Kenya, and now in Mozambique. René has been a professor at several universities, including the University of Georgia, the George Washington University, and University of Chile, and the University of Oxford. The focus of his research has been on the environments and ecology of human origins in Africa. René has mentored many undergraduate and graduate students, including PhD students from Ethiopia and Mozambique.
