Research title: Attendance of the Koobi Fora Field School

“I am a student at Dilla University, where I am currently working toward a Master of Science in GIS and Remote Sensing. I employ geospatial technologies in paleo-environmental research. My area of interest is in reconstructing historical habitats and hominin behaviour through the integration of geological, archaeological, and biological data.”

In Ethiopia’s vast geoarchaeological basins (Awash, Konso, Weyto, and Omo), I have led geological and paleoenvironmental field research. I have also helped map rock art in Shepi and Yabelo. My abilities in stratigraphy, sediment analysis, lithic artifact classification, site formation processes, and the integration of geology and cultural heritage were all improved by these pursuits. In the Gedeo Zone, I have also mapped megalithic sites using remote sensing.

In the course of a six-week field training program in Kenya at the Koobi Fora Field School, I will gain proficiency in interdisciplinary data interpretation, excavation techniques, total station operation, and cartographic abilities. My objective is to transform these experiences into innovative, hands-on teaching strategies at Dilla University, where I instruct students in sedimentology, excavation techniques, geo-heritage site documentation, the use of GIS, drone mapping, and R statistical software. I am deeply committed to scientific research, interdisciplinary studies, and developing African palaeoanthropology’s capacity.
