Project title: Harnessing the use of machine learning in the identification of reduction sequences: Application to the Oldowan Technology.

 

Movin is a passionate graduate student with a keen interest in human evolution, specifically focusing on the intricate relationships between humans and their environment. He describes his journey in the field of anthropology and archaeology as being “enriched by diverse experiences and valuable skills gained along the way”.

Movin’s professional journey began at the National Museum of Kenya (NMK), where he has been actively involved since 2021. At the NMK, he has delved into various aspects of archaeological research, including 3D scanning, photogrammetry, microfauna analysis, and phytoliths analysis. His hands-on experience extends to fieldwork, where he has contributed to excavations. Moreover, he has played a pivotal role in collecting, cataloging, and preserving fossils and artifacts, further deepening his understanding of our human past. He describes his field experiences as “being instrumental in shaping his academic and practical knowledge”. From participating in the Commonwealth War Graves Project to being part of the prestigious Koobi Fora Research and Training Project under the guidance of  experienced researchers and professor’s, Movin has gained invaluable insights into diverse archaeological contexts and methodologies.

Movin’s skills are not limited to the field alone as he is also experience in data collection statistical analyses, and remote sensing technologies to extract meaningful insights from archaeological data sets.

His educational journey includes rigorous training at the Koobi Fora Field School and specialized courses in remote sensing, lithic typology, and analysis. Movin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Archaeology with IT from Maseno University, laying a strong foundation for his ongoing pursuit of understanding human-environment relationships.
