Matt Lotter is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Geography, Archaeology and Environmental Studies, and is the Editor-in-Chief of Southern African Field Archaeology, an open-access peer-reviewed scientific journal.

Matt completed his studies at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) where he developed a passion for interdisciplinary research on southern African archaeology. Since then, he has conducted field work at sites from across southern Africa and abroad in China. He has published several scientific papers, in both local and international journals, as well as book chapters, and is a Y1 rated researcher with the National Research Foundation of South Africa. Outside of work, Matt Lotter is a father of two small children and two dachshunds, and he enjoys spending time with family and friends in the bush or along the coast. He also enjoys fly-fishing with his father and nephew and enjoys watching the Springboks beat every other team.
