Matt G. Lotter, a Y1-rated researcher, is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Geography, Archaeology and Environmental Studies, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of Southern African Field Archaeology, an open-access peer-reviewed scientific journal.
Matt completed his studies at the University of the Witwatersrand and subsequently completed postdoctoral fellowships at both the Universities of Pretoria and Johannesburg. While at the latter, he was awarded a certificate for outstanding achievement in research and academic citizenship in the Faculty of Humanities. His research interests include African landscapes and stone tool technology (specifically within the Earlier Stone Age sequence of southern Africa) and geoarchaeological landscape-based studies investigating site formation. He has published a range of scientific papers and book chapters on these topics and is currently co-directing excavations at the Stone Age site of Wonderboom in Tshwane. Matt also collaborates with international colleagues on lithic technology research during the Pleistocene in South China.
