Research title: Fauna from a late quaternary brown hyena lair at the cave of hearths.

Anelisiwe is a Master of Science candidate in Palaeontology at the University of the Witwatersrand, currently focusing on the fauna from the Cave of Hearths, where she is working on identifying and reconstructing the palaeoenvironment.

Her previous research explored the differences between carnivore and ungulate accumulations in South African origins sites, a study close to her heart as some of these sites were from her home region in the Western Cape. This connection allowed her to relate present-day environmental conditions to those of the past.

With her current research, she hopes to deepen her understanding of the Transvaal region. She believes that by studying the past and our origins, we can infer future trends and address contemporary challenges. To her, there is much more to uncover about the past, and further studies are essential to revealing these hidden insights.
